Petrol and diesel cars set to be banned from sale by 2030 under Government plans to cut carbon emissions

PETROL and diesel cars are set to be banned from sale by 2030 under new Government plans to cut carbon emissions.

PM Boris Johnson is expected to confirm the new target as soon as next week in a bid to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the UK before 2050.

The ban, which was originally set for 2040, has been brought forward by an entire decade in order for the UK to reach the 2050 target, reports The Times.

Back in February, the Government brought forward the ban to 2035 as part of a launch event for a United Nations climate summit in November.

During the event, Johnson said that 2020 would be a “defining year of climate action” for the planet.

Transport secretary Grant Shapps warned in late

Anantapur RTA officials unearth car sale scam that used software loophole

The Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials in Anantapur unearthed a scam in which a gang changed the registration numbers of cars using a loophole in the online procedure of the department and sold them cheaply.

The miscreants, who allegedly bought the cars on finance, made the financiers believe that they were stolen and even lodged police complaints claiming that the vehicles were missing. In the process, they reportedly evaded payment of lifetime road tax running into lakhs of rupees.Six such vehicles – four in Tadipatri and one in Kalyandurg and one in Owk of Kurnool district – were confiscated by the DTC Anantapur and RTO Anantapur DSM Varaprasad and their teams after verifying the old RCs by retrieving data from back-end servers. Some vehicles are said to be still running in Telangana and Karnataka.

Deputy Transport Commissioner N. Sivaram Prasad said they had chanced upon two vehicles that

JR car park sale alarm highlights absurd situation at great hospital

THE alarm at the John Radcliffe that vital staff parking space could be sold off is a reminder of the preposterous situation around parking there.

For years, staff and patients at our world-class hospital have complained at having to queue for up to an hour just to get a space, with many parking on surrounding residential streets instead.

We have even reported on homeowners in the area making cold, hard cash by renting out their driveways.

The situation clearly causes a lot of stress for employees and families who are already inherently dealing with a lot of stress from the very fact they are driving to a hospital – whether they are going to work or visiting a friend or relative.

One obvious, simple, and popular solution would be a multi-storey car park which could fit hundreds of cars.

Unfortunately for fans of that idea, our city council won’t allow

The 15 Cars With the Worst Fuel Economy on Sale Now

Whether you’re a born-again coal-roller or an acolyte of the Holy Order of Mother Earth, you can appreciate a car with good fuel economy—even if for different reasons. For some of us, the reason to care is all around us; the world is warming, and we’re speeding it up, so we should do what we can to minimize or reverse that. For others, the appeal of good fuel economy is more about how much money they pump out of their wallets and into a tank every week. Either way, cars that get terrible fuel economy are, generally, to be avoided. So, which cars get the worst fuel economy these days?

Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of the top 50 cars with the worst fuel economy are exotic sports cars and supercars, with brands like Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Ferrari the most numerous. Bentley and Rolls-Royce also make frequent appearances at the bottom

California Bans the Sale of New Gas and Diesel Cars by 2035

As the global climate crisis literally heats up before humanity’s eyes, countries across the globe are taking drastic action to slash carbon outputs–many of them by moving to ban the sale of new internal combustion-engined vehicles (ICEVs). Some locales, such as Great Britain, have proposed merely culling diesel engines 15 years from now, while others such as Amsterdam have floated complete prohibitions on internal combustion engines (ICE) as soon as a decade out. And joining their ranks somewhere in the middle will be the state of California, whose Governor Gavin Newsom just signed a ban on the sale of new ICE vehicles by 2035.

California To Ban Sale Of New Gas-Powered Cars By 2035

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Wednesday to ban the sale and manufacturing of new gas-only cars in 2035. The mandate, aimed at combatting climate change, will require all new vehicles sold in the Golden State to have zero emissions.

California’s transportation sector has contributed to at least 50 percent carbon emissions released into the atmosphere, contributing to rising climate problems and hampering air quality, the governor said Wednesday. By eliminating gas-powered vehicles, total greenhouse gas emissions would be limited by more than a third, significantly reducing tailpipe pollution.

The California governor’s decision to sign an order over the legislative process is one of the most aggressive actions taken to tackle climate change within the United States.

“I don’t know of any other state in this country that’s been more forceful and forthright in establishing an anchor and a consciousness around climate change,” Newsom said.

California unilaterally bans sale of new gasoline cars after 2035

By Dana Hull, Gabrielle Coppola and David R. Baker on 9/24/2020

(Bloomberg) –California just started the clock on a future that a few years ago would’ve been unthinkable: dealerships full of nothing but zero-emissions cars.

On September 23rd, Governor Gavin Newsom ordered regulators to phase out the internal combustion engine and ban the sale of all new gasoline-fueled cars after 2035. With that, California became the first state in America to impose such a prohibition and delivered the biggest jolt yet to automakers already under pressure to give up fossil fuels and deliver a new generation of electric vehicles.

California Fuel Dream

While for now the industry depends on gasoline-powered SUVs and pickups for most of its profit, traditional automakers are investing billions of dollars in electrification and announcing new EV models — with startups such as Rivian Automotive and Lucid Motors Inc. right on

California will ban sale of new ICE cars in 2035. Why not sooner?

California Governor Gavin Newsom has just announced a ban on the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles starting in 2035. The state will require all new cars and trucks sold after that date to be zero emission vehicles. Californians will still be able to operate gas-powered vehicles after that date, and will still be able to buy and sell used gas cars.

This move is the most aggressive yet-announced in the US, and will have major effects for the auto industry as a whole, given California’s leadership on clean air issues. But the thing is: it should be even more aggressive.

California’s per capita emissions are among the lowest of any state. Californians emit, on average around 9 tons of CO2 per year, while the US emits around 16 tons of CO2 annually per person.

But an outsized percentage of California’s emissions come from transportation — while 28% of the US’

California to ban the sale of gasoline-powered cars by 2035

Sept. 23 (UPI) — California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Wednesday to end the sale of new internal-combustion passenger vehicles by 2035.

Standing before a row of luxury electric vehicles, Newsom announced the executive order, describing it as a bold measure to combat climate change, the most impactful of the many crises the state is facing, as California endeavors to make its economy carbon-free by 2045.

“We can’t continue down this path if we’re going to achieve our audacious goals and as a consequence today, we are making a new course, we are setting a new marker,” Newsom said during the press conference, adding that “in the next 15 years we will eliminate in the state of California the sales of internal combustion engines. We will move forward to green and decarbonize our vehicle fleet.”

The governor’s office said in a statement that the transportation sector is
