Car insurance companies to refund Mississippians more than $60 million

Mississippi drivers will get back more than $60 million from car insurance companies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The insurance companies filed requests with the Mississippi Insurance Department.Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney said he was happy to approve the reductions in premiums.“Many people are not driving as much right now because of shelter-in-place, emergency declarations and working from home. It only makes sense to discount what people are paying for automobile insurance and to provide them some financial relief,” said Chaney.Some of the companies participating in refunds include State Farm, Allstate, Farm Bureau and Progressive.The amount returned to drivers varies among companies.
