The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in the wake of 9/11 to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems while ensuring the freedom of movement for people and commerce. Within a year, TSA assumed responsibility for security at the nation’s airports and deployed a federal workforce to screen all commercial airline passengers and baggage.
TSA now vets 100 percent of all passengers into, out of, and within the United States through TSA’s Secure Flight program. We use the latest technology to stay ahead of evolving threats, and continuing our efforts to screen 100 percent of cargo, regardless of where or how it is moving.
Improving Security Through Layered, Risk Based Approach
TSA employs a layered, risk-based approach to secure U.S. transportation systems, working closely with stakeholders in aviation, rail, transit, highway, and pipeline sectors, as well as the partners in the law enforcement and intelligence community. The agency
Newark Liberty International Airport
Address3 Brewster Rd, Newark, NJ 07114, USA
If you’ve never been to New York City, you might think that flying into a different state is unnecessarily far. But Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), located in New Jersey, is just a stone’s throw away from Manhattan across the Hudson River and you can reach most parts of the city just as quickly—if not faster—than if you were coming from JFK Airport or LaGuardia Airport.
Newark Airport is 18 miles from Midtown Manhattan, and taking a taxi into the city from New Jersey is usually more expensive than taking a taxi from JFK or LaGuardia airports. Many travelers find the most convenient option to be taking the train directly from the airport to Penn Station in New York, which is affordable and takes less than 30 minutes. Hybrid bicycles blend characteristics from more specialized road bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes. The resulting “hybrid” is a general-purpose bike that can tolerate a wide range of riding conditions and applications. Their stability, comfort and ease of use make them popular with novice cyclists, casual riders, commuters, and children.
Hybrids typically borrow the flat, straight handlebars and upright seating posture of a mountain bike, which many bicyclists find comfortable and intuitive. Hybrids also employ the lighter weight, thinner wheels and smooth tires of road bikes, allowing for greater speed and less exertion when riding on the road. Hybrid bikes often have places to mount racks and bags for transporting belongings, much like a touring bike.
Hybrid bikes have spawned numerous sub-categories satisfying diverse ridership. They are classified by their design priorities, such as those optimized for comfort or fitness — and those offered as city, cross or commuter

- Data Collection
The Office of Sustainability surveys the campus community annually regarding work-related transportation and related greenhouse gas emissions. This data helps the College understand commuting behavior among staff and faculty and develop policies programs to reduce carbon emissions associated with travel to and from campus. Greenhouse gas emissions from commuting and directly financed travel are components of the College’s greenhouse gas inventory, which is updated every year and publicly available through Second Nature’s reporting platform.
