Bicycle Accidents in the United States

Thanks to advocacy efforts across the country, the number of bicyclists on American roads has increased substantially over the past decade. As more riders are on the road, the likelihood of bicycle-related accidents increases. While many cities have taken steps to make roads a safer place for bicyclists, others have not. Until all cities embrace bicycle culture and initiate changes to the infrastructure, bicycle-related accidents will continue to be problematic.

Overview of Bicycle Accidents in the United States

Statistics show that while the overall number of bicycle accidents in the country is declining, the number of fatal bike accidents is on the rise. In 2015, there were 45,000 reported bicycle accidents in the United States, down from 50,000 reported accidents in the prior year. However, the number of fatal accidents increased by more than 12 percent during this same time.

Automotive Engine Cooling System Market Size, Industry Share and Growth Rate 2019-2026

Automotive engine cooling system is an integral part of vehicle that maintains the temperature of engine by using air or liquid, in order to remove the excess heat. An efficient cooling system allows engine to perform better, thereby offering a better mileage and power to vehicles. Increase in manufacturing and sales of automotive vehicles is expected to spur the market growth over the forecast period.

Moreover, the smart engine cooling systems are gaining popularity due to various advantages offered, such as increased fuel efficiency, reduced tailpipe emission and less parasitic engine load. According to secondary research, it is estimated that by 2026 approximately more than 30% of vehicles will be equipped with engine cooling system whereas the remaining 70% will cover the hybrid and electric vehicles market.

Bicycle Requirements Business Guidance | CPSC.gov

What is the purpose of the requirements for bicycles?

This regulation increases the safety of bicycles by establishing, among other things, requirements for assembly, braking, protrusions, structural integrity and reflectors. Bicycles that fail any of the requirements are banned under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

Where can I find the requirements for bicycles?

The requirements are in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in Title 16, Part 1512.

What is a bicycle?

A bicycle is defined in §1512.2 as either (1) a two-wheeled vehicle having a rear drive wheel solely human-powered; or (2) a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts (1 h.p.), whose maximum speed on a paved level surface, when powered solely by such a motor while ridden by an operator who weighs 170 pounds, is less than 20 mph.

The bicycle requirements cover two different types of

Bicycle Model

Bicycle Model

The non-linear bicycle model considers longitudinal (x), lateral
(y), and yaw motion under the assumption of negligible
lateral weight shift, roll and compliance steer while traveling on
a smooth road. Our design of control strategy is to control both
longitudinal and lateral motions during hard braking and steering
maneuvers. Angular velocities of front and rear tires are added to
the states in order to investigate directional interactions
between longitudinal and lateral tire forces. In addition to these
five states, longitudinal and lateral positions and yaw angle with
respect to the fixed inertial coordinates are added to the dynamic
equation in order to refresh the vehicle position and orientation
in the simulation scene. Thus, the bicycle model used in our
simulator has 5 Degrees Of Freedom with 8 state equations.
The bicycle model developement presented here is based on

Boy and Bicycle (1965) – IMDb

Edit

Storyline

A lad of 16 spends a day on his bike in and about a village on the coast of the North Sea south of Newcastle. He heads to the shore for a contemplative smoke, rides into the village for a visit to a candy shop, then goes back to the strand. Clouds, water, shadows, and reflections give his day texture as do his internal monologues – comic commentary on adults, thoughts about dying, and observations about his family. Afternoon rain sends him looking for shelter. He explores a shack where someone lives. What discoveries await?

Reviews of the Best Touring Bicycles

When it comes to buying a touring bicycle, most local bike shops will have only one or two models on the floor, if any. It isn’t that they don’t want to sell a high-quality touring bicycle, it is more an issue of economics and what price range the average person comes in the store to buy.

If you go into a local bike store, the price of most bicycles will start around $300 and go to over $1,500 for higher-end racing bicycles and mountain bikes. Most of the bicycles you will see will be in the $500 to $600 range. Unfortunately, a new, high-quality touring bicycle will usually have a price tag of $1,000 or more. And many of the expedition bicycles that can handle almost any touring terrain will start at $2,000 and go up from there.

When considering a new touring bicycle, I use the following selection criteria:

Bicycle Helmet Standards

Bicycle Helmet Standards

Summary: The Consumer Product Safety Commission bike helmet standard is required by law in the US. Some of the Snell Memorial Foundation standards are a bit more difficult to pass, but are not often used. ASTM continues to produce standards for other activities such as skating, skiing and downhill bicycle racing. Australia, Canada, Europe and others have bicycle helmet standards as well, and we discuss them below. We also have a summary standards comparison page.

Standards Discussed Below

Basics

All of the standards discussed here require the helmet to pass a lab test where it is placed on an instrumented headform, turned upside down and dropped for a measured distance onto an anvil. The anvil can be flat, round (hemispheric) or another shape like a curbstone, a skate blade or a horse’s hoof. Drop distances vary but are generally between one and two meters (3.3 to 6.6
