Two-time NASCAR Cup race winner Jones loses JGR drive for 2021 – NASCAR

Erik Jones’ tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series will come to an end after the 2020 season.

On Thursday evening, JGR announced Jones would not return to its No. 20 Toyota in 2021.

Jones had signed a one-year extension with JGR last season and in recent weeks had said he had been working on another extension.

The 24-year-old has made 131 starts in the Cup series – all with JGR – and has a pair of victories, winning the summer race at Daytona in 2018 and earned a win in the prestigious Southern 500 at Darlington last season.

“We appreciate all Erik has done for Joe Gibbs Racing over the past several years,” JGR owner Joe Gibbs said in a statement.

“He joined us as a teenager and has accomplished so much in his time here and we remain focused on the remainder of this season

WRC winner Ostberg to make RX debut in electric Citroen – World Rallycross

Citroen works rally driver Mads Ostberg will make his rallycross debut in the Holjes World Rallycross Championship season opener on 22-23 August, racing in the new electric Projekt E category.

Ostberg, whose sole outright World Rally Championship victory came on Rally Portugal in 2012, has been contesting the WRC-2 division with Citroen this year and won both the two season-opening events in Monte Carlo and Sweden in a works C3 R5.

The Norwegian will drive a Citroen C3 ERX, developed by Manfred Stohl’s STARD concern using the French marque’s C3 R5 rolling chassis, mated to the ‘Revelution’ 450kW electric powertrain used by all cars in Projekt E and also developed by Stohl’s company.

While Ostberg has never competed in a rallycross event, he conducted demonstration laps in a Subaru Impreza WRC at his home round of the European Rallycross Championship at Momarken almost 15 years ago, and at the end
